Community Interest

The Marion Cross School is contacted by local businesses and non-profits to make our parents aware of upcoming opportunities. We publish information that directly supports or enhances our Pre-K-6 population. Please note that these are not school sponsored events.

If you have a program you'd like featured, please contact Jessica Liddy in the front office. Items will be featured for the month with updates each Friday.

Week of April 6 - 10

American Red Cross Blood Shortage

COVID-19 has temporarily disrupted normal life in many communities, but the need for blood hasn’t changed. The American Red Cross has implemented several enhanced blood donations protocols in the interest of safety, and there is an urgent and critical need for volunteers to support these protocols.

A new volunteer opportunity, Blood Donor Screener, will help pre-screen blood donors entering drives or donation centers.

Please also consider donating blood as we are facing a severe blood shortage due to unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during this coronavirus outbreak. You can make an appointment to give blood or platelets at RedCrossBlood.org.

***When considering volunteering, please review the risk guidance provided by the CDC and your healthcare provider.

Please reach out to Erica at Erica.Fuller@redcross.org with any questions!

Our new non-profit, Future Genius, is hosting a summer program at Frances C. Richmond Middle School for Ages 10-13 that focuses on 21st century sustainability education and stewardship:

July 6-10 - ECO GENIUS (Environmental Studies) - Design activities for an eco footprint challenge
July 13-17 - BETA MASTERS (Video Game Design) - Build a video game for a seed investor pitch
July 20-24 - ELECTION 2020 (Political Science) - Prepare a candidate for a political caucus

Through exploration of the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, including ending poverty, fighting inequality, and tackling climate change, Future Genius leadership programs activate youth to become agents of change—future leaders and problem-solvers—energized to transform the world. Learn more at https://www.futuregenius.org/

If willing, we'd love your help to spread the word about Future Genius.

1. Can we hang a poster in your school? See attached poster example.

2. Could you share our flyer with your school community? See attached flyer. We recommend digital distribution via email.

3. We are offering full and partial scholarships to attend Future Genius this summer. Do you have a student with the intellectual interest for Future Genius sustainability leadership, but may face financial hardship at home? Rather than reviewing personal tax returns, we are asking school administrators to nominate a worthy 10-13 year old student at https://www.futuregenius.org/about/scholarships/
