Week of September 30 - October 4

Message from the Principal

This was an exciting week at Marion Cross School.  The sixth graders enjoyed a ropes course adventure at Stokes Pond.  Third graders enjoyed a trip to the Montshire Museum. Kindergarteners had a lovely day in the outdoor classroom.  MCS students are fortunate to have many special opportunities throughout the school year. Each of these opportunities enables them to make connections between what is being learned inside the classroom using resources in the community.  Special thanks to the many parents who take time to chaperone field trips, which allows these experiences to continue to happen.

On October 23rd will be the first Chat with the Principal event.  This is a time for you to come and learn about a specific topic and then ask questions that might be on your mind.  This month the topic will be the difference between a EST (Educational Support Team) plan, Section 504 plan, and an IEP (Individualized Education Plan).  We will have two guests join us for the first half hour. Rhett Darek, the Special Services Director, will talk about the process for IEP plans. Greg Bagnato, Coordinator of Student Services, will join us to talk about 504 plans.  This will be a great time to ask questions about how students can qualify for these sorts of plans, what a plan looks like, how plans are monitored, etc. The remainder of the time after this presentation will be spent taking questions about any topics of interest to guests.  My hope is to hold monthly Chat with the Principal events so if you are not able to attend this one, there will be more!

Enjoy the weekend,

Shawn
