Message From the Principal

Dear MCS Community,

Thursday evening was a night of excitement and learning at MCS.  The fourth grade performed in the play Counting on Grace, based upon the diary of a young girl at the turn of the century.  The performance shared was polished, students were well spoken, and the message was clearly delivered.  The real learning came from the weeks preceding the event. Success and confidence in this setting is built from the stellar work done in the classroom by the fourth grade team through building background knowledge.  For me, a person who is in and out of classrooms, the performance connected the dots and brought together the many individual components observed over the past weeks - creating maps of Vermont, researching photos of mill workers and working conditions in mills, practicing lines in the hallway, reading books about the time period, and many lively classroom discussions.  With the many demands that teachers have to teach a multitude of standards, it is easy to forget to celebrate learning in a meaningful way. The play Counting on Grace is an example of bringing together learning experiences in a way that will leave a lasting impact on students and guests.

This is one great example of the many engaging learning experiences that occur on a daily basis at our school. A huge shout out to the fourth grade team, staff and students, for a memorable evening.

Enjoy the nice weather this weekend,

Shawn
