Flu Update

June 11, 2009

Dear Parents,

The Richmond Middle School and Hanover High School have reported having
several students absent with flu-like symptoms. Hanover High School has
reported that they have one student who has a confirmed case of H1N1 flu.

Presently we have one MCS child out with flu-like symptoms.

The VT Department of Health guidelines are:
-stay home with flu-like symptoms until at least 24 hours after major
symptoms have resolved.
-if sick with confirmed H1N1 flu, stay home for seven days, or longer if
symptoms have not resolved.

Your cooperation with these guidelines is important in preventing the
spread of illness. If your child is out sick, it would be very helpful to
let the school know the nature of the illness, so we can better track the
public health situation here at MCS.

Just to review, flu symptoms are:
-fever (temperature of 100 degrees or greater)
-chills
-sore throat
-cough
-headache
-body aches
-sometimes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

If you have questions, please call the health office at 649-1703 ext. 206.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Linda Kelley, Principal

Jan Hopkins, School Nurse
