School Closing Procedures

The school district (SAU 70) operates an automatic call system which will notify parents on days when there are school cancellations and delays.  This automatic call will normally be made by 6:00 am, or shortly thereafter.  If you are not receiving those calls, or if you would like to receive them at a different phone number, or you would like NOT to receive those phone calls, please contact the school secretary.

For current delayed opening or school closing information, you can also go to the WMUR-Channel 9 website and look for a Norwich listing:
http://www.thewmurchannel.com/weather/closings/

Should there be either delayed opening or school closing due to inclement weather, the following procedures will take place:

Schools will be in session unless weather and road conditions are unusually severe. If schools are in session, they will either start on time even though busses may be a bit slow, or will open two hours late. If open, schools will remain in session all day. SCHOOLS WILL NOT CLOSE EARLY.

For the Norwich School District, Road Agent Andy Hodgdon will assess Norwich road conditions and will be in contact with Hanover Dispatch to find out about other area road conditions. He will discuss by 5:30 a.m. alternatives with Assistant Superintendent John Aubin, and will then make a recommendation on whether to run buses in Norwich, or to delay the opening of school for two hours. Mr. Aubin will call Superintendent Wayne Gersen and a final decision will be made by 5:45 a.m. Mr. Aubin will call the radio stations listed below before 6:00 a.m. John will also call First Student Bus Company and Hanover Dispatch. The Superintendent will call Dr. Kelley.

If a two hour delay has been announced as described above and it is later determined that conditions have not improved, and schools will be closed, an announcement to that effect will be made on the radio and TV stations listed below before 8:00 a.m.

Parents should be aware that bus drivers have the option of bypassing roads on their own if they feel they are not safe. It is possible that even though a route has been determined to be safe by road crews, police, the bus contractor or the driver may determine that the bus may not actually be able to travel on a particular route. Therefore, parents should have alternate plans for their student's transportation, either morning or afternoon, if they live in an area where bus transportation might be difficult in bad weather.
