Music Program
The music program encompasses the practical aspects of music, such as singing, composing and playing an instrument, as well as music history and theory. Performance is an integral part of the music program. There are performances year round, both informal such as those in "Rep" and formal such as the Holiday Program and choral and instrumental concerts.
We have two choruses, a 3/4 and a 5/6 plus a 6th grade a capella group. We have a string orchestra, a primary grade string ensemble and a 5th and a 6th grade band. In January the bands will be combined and many of the players will participate in the SAU music festival in March.Music technology has become a part of our program in the past year. Used as a tool, the teaching of music theory becomes quite rapid and composing with the use of the technology is very exciting. We belong to the Vermont MIDI project (www.vtmidi.org) where students can post their work on-line and professional composers will critique it. In the fall and the spring the Vermont Midi sponsors a live performance of student work and we have been fortunate to have pieces performed in the last two concerts.
